Tribute to The Band

Saturday, December 27, 2014
Doors 7:00PM, Showtime 8:00PM

The THE BAND Band was conceived in the winter of 2007, the brainchild of lifelong friends and The Band fans Jack Kraft and Gary Solomon. Sharing a love for the music of The Band, they formed this tribute band for the sheer enjoyment of playing their songs. They enlisted the talents of Vinny Nicosia, Mike Corbin, and Josh Radin, and after months of careful listening and practicing, they emerged with a rich and impassioned set of The Band songs.
More Info >
The THE BAND Band made its debut performance the following summer, and since then they have played at theaters, clubs, and festivals throughout the Northeast, sharing the stage with such notable artists as Richie Havens, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, and Marshall Crenshaw. We dont play our versions of The Bands songs, we play their versions. We want to preserve the authenticity of their sound, their arrangements, and most importantly, the spirit of their live shows. We use the same instrumentation they used not just guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards, but accordion, mandolin, fiddle, and tuba, and we add a four piece horn section whenever possible. Musically, its both challenging and gratifying to us, and the response of our audiences has been better than we could have dreamed. Clearly, theres a huge demand for just what were doing. The Band is undeniably one of the greatest and most influential groups in the history of rock and roll. Their 1968 debut album, Music From Big Pink, was ranked #34 on Rolling Stone magazines list of the top 500 greatest albums of all time. Their farewell concert in 1976, The Last Waltz, featured notable guests such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and Neil Young. Documented by director Martin Scorcese, it is widely considered to be one of the greatest concert films ever made. The THE BAND Band brings these classic songs to life with authentic, spot-on renditions of The Bands legendary catalog, including "Up On Cripple Creek, "The Weight," and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." Drawing their repertoire from The Band's seminal period from Big Pink to The Last Waltz - they showcase the astounding breadth and depth of The Band's distinctively original Americana music, mixing the well-known hits with obscure gems. They have performed album shows (The Band, Stage Fright), recreations of historic concerts (The Last Waltz, Woodstock, Watkins Glen Music Festival), and a special tribute to Bob Dylan. While The Band may be long gone from the stage, The THE BAND Band is keeping their sound and spirit alive and well!

Red Molly

Sunday, January 25, 2015
Doors 5:00PM, Showtime 6:00PM

On The Red Album, Red Molly delivers their edgiest CD to date, with a wildly cool collection of songs.
The good girls of Americana/Folk take a distinctive shift and show true grit on their latest independent release. Track to track, they weave effortlessly between acoustic instrumentation and a more modern sound.
The trio, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2014, is comprised of Laurie MacAllister (bass), Abbie Gardner (dobro), and Molly Venter (guitar).
They are road warriors who regularly perform about 100 concerts each year. The new CD marks their first Nashville-produced album with Ken Coomer (original drummer for Wilco and Uncle Tupelo). The overall result is a grittier sonic landscape, juxtaposed with Red Molly's signature pristine threepart harmonies. Coomer pushed for more original material than previous records - eight original songs made the cut - four written by Venter and four by Gardner. The band also continues their long tradition of honoring other songwriters, with MacAllister on lead vocal for four covers, including Simon and Garfunkels "Homeward Bound". Plus, to the certain delight of thousands of "RedHeads", Red Molly has finally recorded Richard Thompson's iconic "1952 Vincent Black Lightning", their namesake song!

Although Springfield Ohio native Griffin House didn't begin playing guitar and writing songs until he was 18, the power of his music struck an emotional connection with audiences immediately. "The athletic gifted House shocked his family by turning down a golf scholarship to focus on a new like making music. Sports were really a big part of me and how I grew up, he says. So deciding not to take that scholarship was a turning point for me in choosing a new path for myself, a new life making music. There were some issues to deal with first, however he couldnt play the guitar hed bought from and friend, nor had he ever written a song."

Mary Fahl
formerly of October Project

Saturday, April 11, 2015
Doors 7:00PM, Showtime 8:00PM

Returning to New Hope Winery once again is Mary Fahl, with her new CD Love and Gravity.
Sounding like no other singer of her generation (, Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-90s chamber-pop group OCTOBER PROJECT. Fahls elegant, cinematic songs draw on classical and world music sources, American art song, as well as thinking mans folk-pop. She sings in an earthy, viscerally powerful contralto that Boston Globe critic Steve Morse calls "a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms. Since her "October Project" days, Fahl has recorded solo albums for Sony Classical and V2 Records. She has written and performed songs for several major motion pictures, including the lead song (Going Home) for the Warner Bros. Civil War epic Gods and Generals. In this solo performance, she will perform a number of those songs, several new works, as well as an October Project song or two.
More Info >
Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s cult band October Project, an East Coast folk-rock/adult alternative outfit that recorded two poetic albums for Epic: its self-titled debut album of 1993; and its 1995 encore effort, Falling Farther In, selling over 300,000 abums. Following her days with October Project, Fahl embarked upon a solo career and was finally able to blossom as a songwriter. In 2001, she released an EP, Lenses of Contact (Roughmix Records) and in 2003, she released her acclaimed Sony Classical album The Other Side of Time. One of the songs (Going Home) from this album was featured as the lead song for the Civil War Epic Gods and Generals and another (Dawning of the Day) was showcased in the film The Guys, a moving saga of a 9/11 fire captain. The Boston Herald raved The Other Side of Time is a brilliantly conceived album of broad proportions& and that Mary Fahl has created a lush, orchestral, cinematic debut.
The one constant in Marys varied career is a deeply passionate, soul-searching voice that cannot be doubted. It is a signature voice calls her a completely unique artist of her era and it is transcendently heard on a newly-released, stunning interpretation of Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon album. Along with producers Mark Doyle and David Werner, Mary has seemingly done the impossible by taking an iconic record that was in Billboards Top 200 for 14 years and giving it her indelible stamp. Their accomplishment should appeal to even the most hardened Floyd fan.
Mary defies stereotypes and that may be her greatest strength. To quote Variety: She could have stepped out of a Pre-Raphaelite painting &.. Her voice is similarly classic a powerful, beautifully proportioned contralto that retains its round, effortless tones throughout her range&..shes earthier than Enya, more nuanced than Celine Dion and avoids the bloodless goth of Lisa Gerrard. With a myriad of powerful new songs that shes written over the past few months, coupled with a mix of songs from her recorded albums, Fahl is back on tour, continuing to take audiences on a journey of emotional discovery and transport listeners to other realms (Boston Globe).

Kim Richey

Friday, April 17, 2015
Doors 7:00PM, Showtime 8:00PM

Those artists who find themselves stuck in the deepest of ruts two decades into their careers could learn a thing or two from veteran singer-songwriter Kim Richey. Shes never been afraid to go where the inspiration is.
Two-time Grammy-nominated Kim is a storyteller; a weaver of emotions and a tugger of heartstrings. Tender, poetic and aching with lifes truths, Kims songs transport you to her world, where words paint pictures and melodies touch the soul. And then theres her voice. Pure, arresting and honest, it makes you take notice; Kim has the kind of voice where if emotions were ribbons, theyd be streaming in rainbow colours from your iPod.
More Info >
Early on, the Zanesville, Ohio native thrived on the progressive side of mainstream country, her albums (1995s Kim Richey, 1997s Bittersweet and 1999s Glimmer, all on Mercury) showcasing twang-pop sensibilities, a rich, rounded vocal tone and effortlessly sophisticated songwriting that other discerning performers - Radney Foster, Trisha Yearwood and Pam Tillis to name a few - coveted for their own recordings.
In the years since, Kim has made her subtly psychedelic album Rise (Lost Highway) in Los Angeles with producer Bill Bottrell, flown to London to enlist the help of Giles Martin and emerging with the crisply orchestrated Chinese Boxes (Vanguard) and turned to her East Nashville-based bandleader and frequent co-writer Neilson Hubbard to conjure the earthy indie-pop feel of Wreck Your Wheels (Lojinx/Thirty Tigers) and to complete her latest masterpiece of smart, sensual understatement Thorn In My Heart (Lojinx/Yep Roc).
The array of top-tier guests on the album include Jason Isbell, Wilcos Pat Sansone, My Morning Jackets Carl Broemel, Will Kimbrough and Yearwood, who was, for the first time, returning the harmony-singing favor. And the dozen songs themselves show that Richeys still dreaming up fetching melodies that arc and bend in unexpected ways, and still discovering fresh angles from which to articulate matters of the heart.
